Dontcha Wish your girlfriend could squat like me?

Oh my burning thighs....First workout of LMP yesterday was great. Some squats, some lunges, some dead-lifts, some chest presses and shoulder presses. Nice 20 min workout. I probably won't do this workout as often as they suggest as I like a bit more of a burn and 20 mins isn't going to cut it. But it's a good disc to use to get used to the moves.

This spoke to me because quite frankly if I don't burn about 500 calories, and I'm not sweating profusely when I am done with a workout, I don't feel as though I accomplished anything. Anyone else feel this way? When people post on My Fitness Pal that they did "light cleaning" and they count it as exercise, I think really? that's not exactly exercise. I mean I suppose if you strip down your entire house, wash all the windows, all the floors, and every wall, you can get a good sweat going, but some "light cleaning"...nahhh that isn't going to burn enough calories to justify the margarita you are thinking of having now as a reward for cleaning the house.

The tree is still up. It's still cold out and the snow by the shed is still too hard and tough to shovel. Maybe if I get some motivation later, I will do it and count it as exercise on MFP. HA!

Prepping for the work week. Lots of salad, squash and some shrimp. Doing laundry, I'm going to count the number of times I go up and down the stairs today and count that as exercise as well.

By the end of the day with all my chores, I'm calculating I will burn at least...umm...200 calories.

There was this trainwreck blogger I used to eyeroll at who disappeared over a year ago. She used to claim to eat six pieces of sushi and a bowl of lettuce a day, nothing else...and would list her "exercise" as things like "assembled cat tree" (seriously...like the carpet-covered little tower that house cats climb on) or "walked through supermarket." When I started eyerolling her blog, she was 247 lbs...and was exactly the same six months later when she stopped writing. Effing liars, stop wasting your time.

I don't put any thought into how many calories I'm burning through exercise, but every workout results in sweat-soaked hair and clothes, red cheeks, and, usually, some sore muscles. If it's a "rest day" where I just do a yoga DVD or walk the dogs, that is not a workout. FFS, if things like walking to the mailbox, washing dishes, carrying baskets of laundry, and vacuuming WERE valid calorie-burners, I'd weigh 95 pounds. ;)

Can I count yelling at my deranged teenager as exercise? :D I'm a new follower to your blog & a new weight loss blogger myself. I can't belive how many weight loss blogs have disappeared, sad, but a true testament I guess to how hard it really is to maintain...Can't wait to read more of your posts...

I think you really could count shoveling snow as exercise. Depending on how deep the snow is, that one can be hard work.
Now house cleaning, I'm on board with you for that one being "unusual". I had a MFP friend post 160 minutes of "ironing clothes" ... burned 582 calories. Oooookaaaay....

You are right about the shoveling Angela it probably would be a lot of work since it's iced over and heavy. 582 calories for ironing clothes, who knew instead of sweating profusely to Plyo with Tony Horton in P90x I could burn the same equivalent by ironing clothes.

"Light cleaning" doesn't count to me either. I'm sorry. I have to sweat and look like hell when I'm finished in order for my workout to count.

The other day, I cleaned our entire place from top-to-bottom (the whole nine yards!) and, later on, I chuckled when I saw how little I burned while I was doing all that work. It just feels like more, buuuuuut it isn't. That's why I never count it as a workout. Haha!
